This document outlines a unique opportunity for artists to develop a proposal for a Westmeath County Council Per Cent for Art Scheme commission for the Whitegates to Athlone Castle Cycleway project. The cycleway project involves the construction of a 1.5km extension of cycleways, inclusive of a 104m long cycleway bridge over the River Shannon which connects to the 42km Old Rail Trail from Athlone to Mullingar and ultimately forms part of the proposed Galway to Dublin Cycleway.

Westmeath County Council invites submissions from artists for artwork. 

The Percent for Art scheme will provide a platform for artists to respond creatively to public space along the Old Rail Trail at between 2 and 4 separate locations which will not only animate the trail but also provide the greenway user with an experience that is intriguing and engaging.
